INDEPENDENCE - Grace Marie Bathke, 89, of Independence, formerly of Waterloo, died Friday, July 8, at Oelwein Health Care Center of natural causes.

She was born June 24, 1922, on a farm near Fairbank, daughter of Chester Ray and Lillie Luella Adams Maricle. She married Earl Pooch Bathke Dec. 13, 1941, in Oelwein. He preceded her in death.

She graduated from high school in 1939.

She worked in a rubber plant building hoses for the U.S. Navy in Bucyrus, Ohio during World War II, and at Hinson Manufacturing, J. E. Millett Co., and in the Waterloo school system, retiring in 1984.

Survived by two brothers, Clyde (Betty) Maricle of Waverly and Bob Maricle of Fairbank; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by a daughter.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, Waterloo, with burial in Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
