ELK RUN HEIGHTS - Wayne L. "Pete" Peterson, 75, of Elk Run Heights, died at home Monday, July 4.

He was born Aug. 26, 1935, in Osage, son of Chris and Una Perry Peterson. He married Betty Nootnagel on Nov. 16, 1958, in Charles City, and they later divorced.

Mr. Peterson was a U.S. Marine veteran of the Korean War. He was a machinist for John Deere for 31 years, retiring in December 1989.

Survived by a son, Mike of Cedar Falls; a daughter, Lori (Gene) Papenheim of Waterloo; two grandchildren, Jason (Kassie) Peterson and Chris Peterson; a brother, Kenny of Charles City; and his companion, Mary Webster.

Preceded in death by four brothers, Ivan, Claire, Russell and Harold; and two sisters, Lola and Iverne Peterson.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, Waterloo, where military rites will be conducted by Waterloo American Legion Post 138 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1623, with flag presentation by the Iowa Army Honor Guard. Graveside services 1 p.m. Saturday at Sunnyside Memory Gardens, Charles City. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
