WATERLOO - Gene A. Pond, 71, of Waterloo, died Tuesday, June 28, at Covenant Medical Center.

He was born June 4, 1940, in Milwaukee, Wis., son of Daniel and Dolores Smith Pond. He married Janet Carlson on June 10, 1961, at St. John's Catholic Church, Waterloo.

Mr. Pond graduated from Canton High School, Canton, Minn. He worked at John Deere in the computer room, as maintenance supervisor, time study, and on the fire brigade, retiring April 30, 1993, after 30 years.

Survived by his wife; two daughters, Kimberly Pond of Tama and Kelly (James) Crooks of Mount Pleasant; a son, Kerry (Heather) of Waterloo; six grandchildren, Christopher Baker of Waterloo, Jacob and Jordan Crooks, both of Mount Pleasant, Katie, Alyssa and Jenna Pond, all of Waterloo; four brothers, Gary (Mable) of Waterloo, Gregory (Diane) Andersen of Elk Run Heights, David (Cheryl) Andersen of Plymouth and Dennis Andersen of Evansdale; and a sister, Carole Gray of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by his parents.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Locke Funeral Home, with a 7 p.m. Scripture service.
