WATERLOO — Betty Landgraf Dalton, 88, of Waterloo, died Thursday, June 23, at Friendship Village Pavilion.

She was born Sept. 25, 1922, in Waterloo, daughter of Thomas O. and Eva Bryan Landgraf. She married Charles “Chuck” H. Dalton Jr. July 8, 1944, at the Marine Corps Base in Quantico, Va.

She graduated from Waterloo East High School in 1940 and received her bachelor’s degree in home economics from Iowa State University in 1944, where she was a Delta Zeta Sorority member. She also was a homemaker and member of First Congregational United Church of Christ. She served on the first board of Cedar Valley United Way and Goodwill Industries, was on YWCA board of directors and member of PEO Chapter Z for many years. She volunteered at Bridgeway Elementary School and Waterloo Center for the Arts.

Survived by her husband; a son, Charles “Chip” (Diane) III of Meadowlakes, Texas; a daughter, Ann (Steve Swenson) of Seattle; three grandsons, W. Chase of Austin, Texas, and John E. and Lars A. Swenson, both of Seattle; three granddaughters, Danielle Coulter of New York City, and Michelle Coulter and Haley Coulter, both of Meadowlakes, Texas; and a sister, Mary Jean Hovey of Allentown, Pa.

Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Congregational United Church of Christ, with burial in Fairview Cemetery, Waterloo. Public visitation from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Locke Funeral Home.

Memorials in lieu of flowers, may be directed to the YWCA.

The family would like to acknowledge the staff at Friendship Village Pavilion and Cedar Valley Hospice for their compassionate and professional care. She enjoyed playing bridge and tennis well into her 80s.
