CEDAR FALLS — Rev. James R. Troxel, 89, of Waterloo, died Friday, June 24, at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo.

He was born Oct. 8, 1921, in Farragut, son of Irvin and Ida Greer Troxel. He married Rosemary Wolfe Aug. 10, 1948, in Iowa Falls.

He received a bachelor’s degree from Wheaton College in Illinois and his Masters of Divinity from Northern Baptist Theological Seminary in Chicago. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He served as pastor at First Baptist Church in Lake City from 1952-55, First Baptist Church in Mount Pleasant from 1955-67, St. Clair Ave. Baptist Church in Hamilton, Ohio from 1967-75, and from 1975 until his retirement in 1987 at First Baptist Church in Cedar Falls.

Survived by his wife; two sons, Ronald (Jacki) of Cross Plains, Wis., and Mark of Eden Prairie, Minn.; a daughter, Cheryl Kottke of Eagan, Minn.; five grandchildren; and a sister, Betty (Ken) Chase of Milwaukee, Ore.

Preceded in death by a grandson; a brother, Rex; two sisters, Lillian Troxel and Erma Daly; and a half brother, Larry.

Services: 2 p.m. Monday at Prairie Lakes Church, with burial in Union Cemetery, Iowa Falls. Public visitation from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. today at Richardson Funeral Home, Cedar Falls.

Memorials may be directed to the family to be used towards Missions.
