WATERLOO — Marlys McDowell Wagner, 83, of Waterloo, died Friday, June 24, at home.

She was born June 7, 1928, in Waterloo, daughter of Rudolph “Curly” and Hedwig “Hattie” Jago Michael. She married Kenneth McDowell Aug. 18, 1950, in Waterloo. He died in April 29, 1987. She married Gerald Wagner July 3, 1992, in Waterloo. He died Nov. 10, 2001.

She graduated from Waterloo West High School in 1946. She was a bookkeeper at Alstadt & Langlas Baking Co., Lawn City Bakery and H & L Bakery. She was a charter member of Ascension Lutheran Church and was active in Bible studies, and formerly a member of the church’s Alter Committee.

Survived by a nephew, James (Jane) Stoakes of Fayetteville, Ga.; three great-nephews, Michael (Elizabeth) Stoakes of Kansas City, Mo., Mark (Vicky) Stoakes of Marietta, Ga., and Jeffrey (Tami) Stoakes of Indianapolis; and a great-niece, Susan Stoakes of Oviedo, Fla.

Preceded in death by three sisters, Lily Michael, Eleanor Betz and Violet Stoakes; and a nephew, Michael Stoakes.

Services: 11 a.m. Monday at Ascension Lutheran Church, with burial in Elmwood Cemetery. Public visitation will be held for an hour before services Monday at the church. Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway is in charge of arrangements.
