Marjorie H. Hornung, 89, passed away Monday, June 20, 2011, at NewAldaya Lifescapes Home, Cedar Falls. Mrs. Hornung lived most of her life near Hubbard and as her health failed in recent years, moved to the Cedar Falls area.

She was born Jan. 9, 1922, in Fort Dodge. After moving to Cedar Falls, she graduated from the Price Lab School and went on to graduate from Iowa State Teachers College in 1943. She and husband, Arvene Hornung, farmed the family farm near Hubbard while raising their family. Marjorie also taught French for 21 years at the Hubbard Community Schools.

Marjorie is survived by sons, Richard (Shelley) of Madrid and Wayne (Carol) of Cedar Falls; daughter-in-law, Jane Hornung; six grandchildren, Melanie Kulow (Steve) of Iowa Falls, Troy Hornung (Tina) of Hubbard, Grant Hornung of Waterloo, Kristin Hornung of Buffalo Grove, Ill., and Jay and Tim Hornung of Madrid; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by husband, Arvene Hornung; son, Gary; parents, Dr. Adolph and Frances Thoms; and one sister, Bernice Tucker.

Visitation was at Boeke Funeral Home, Hubbard, from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 22, with funeral services at Salem Methodist Church at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 23, all in Hubbard.
