CEDAR FALLS - Racheal C. Schmaltz, 86, of Waverly, formerly of Cedar Falls, died Sunday, June 12, at Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community, Waverly.

She was born Aug. 27, 1924, in River Falls, Wis., daughter of Arthur and Ruby Chinnock Martin. She married John Schmaltz Jr. on May 7, 1946, in Anamoose, N.D. He died Aug. 17, 1986.

Mrs. Schmaltz graduated from River Falls High School and attended school in Madison, Wis.

Survived by a son, Robin (Patricia) of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; six daughters, Jennifer Copley of Missoula, Mont., Melanie (Gary) Harmon of Stamford, Conn., Diana (Tom) Nowatzki of Shoreview, Minn., Candace (Michael) Bruns of Rushsylvania, Ohio, Mary Beth (Ed) Griffis of Orlando, Fla., and Lesa (Les) Collum of Cedar Falls; 17 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by an infant sister, Sarah.

Services: 1 p.m. Thursday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, Cedar Falls, with burial in Rock Island National Cemetery, Rock Island, Ill. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with a 6 p.m. time of sharing. Visitation also an hour before service Thursday.

Memorials may be directed to Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community in Waverly or Cedar Valley Hospice.
