WATERLOO - Claude Robert Byford, 77, of Waterloo, died Saturday, June 11, at Allen Hospital, of natural causes.

He was born March 2, 1934, in Waterloo, son of Claude A. and Hazel Courter Byford. He married Beverly Stiles on May 9, 1959, in Waterloo. They later divorced.

Mr. Byford graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1953 and was employed as a test operator at John Deere. He served in the U.S. Army Military Police.

Survived by two sons, David (Anne) of Ackley and Joel (Diane) of Carlisle; two daughters, Lisa (Art McGowan) Richardson of Walker and Lori (Kenny) Frost of Waterloo; 18 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a brother-in-law, Paul Witmer of Janesville, Wis.

Preceded in death by a sister, Jan Witmer.

Services: 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Full military rites will be conducted by the Waterloo AMVETS Post 19 and Evansdale AMVETS Post 31. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, with a 4 p.m. rosary. Visitation also an hour before services Wednesday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the family.
