EVANSDALE - Lester G. Torsrud, 85, of Evansdale, died Wednesday, June 8, at Allen Hospital, Waterloo, from complications of heart surgery

He was born May 18, 1926, in St. Olaf, son of Tov and Helga Nelson Torsrud. He married Annabell R. Andermann, and they later divorced. He married Donna Gillespie on Feb. 22, 1986, at the Little Brown Church, Nashua.

Mr. Torsrud graduated from Elkader High School, Elkader, and Milwaukee School of Engineering. He was employed as a design engineer with Schoitz Engineering for 46 years, retiring in 1997. He also was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

Survived by his wife; a daughter, Debra Torsrud of Elk Run Heights; two stepdaughters, Terrie (Steve) Bell of Oelwein and Vickie (Steve) Sturgeon of Ankeny; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Fern (Marion) Olson of Monona; and a sister-in-law, Betty Torsrud of Freeport, Ill.

Preceded in death by a son, Robert; a brother, Harold; and a great-granddaughter.

Services: 10 a.m. Saturday at Locke Funeral Home, Waterloo, with burial at 2:30 p.m. in Norway Lutheran Cemetery, St. Olaf. Military rites will be conducted by Evansdale AMVETS Post 31. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to Iowa's Bravest (supports military personnel who are serving in Iraq and Afghanistan).
