DIKE, Iowa --- Investigators said they have no sign of foul play in the Tuesday morning traffic accident that killed a Waterloo bicyclist.

Grundy County Sheriff Rick Penning said there are no indications that speeding, alcohol or other gross negligence played a role in the crash that took the life of Vera Lucia Ribeiro-Sulentic, 49, of Waterloo.

Ribeiro-Sulentic was riding her bike west on Old Highway 20/160th Street at about 6:20 a.m. when she was struck from behind by a westbound sport utility vehicle driven by Dustin Hughson, 30, of Grundy Center.

Penning said the Iowa State Patrol is undertaking a technical investigation of the crash, which is normal for fatal accidents. The results are pending, but Penning said at this point he sees no charges more serious than a traffic ticket.

The accident happened three miles east of Dike.

Ribeiro-Sulentic, an exercise enthusiast, was out for a morning ride, and Hughson was returning home from his third-shift job, Penning said.

Hughson didn't have a cell phone with him and went to the nearest farm house to call authorities after the accident, the sheriff said.

Services for Ribeiro-Sulentic are pending with Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway Avenue in Waterloo.
