Ruth Ann Dannehl, age 85, of Watseka, Ill., died peacefully under hospice care at Iroquois Resident Home, Watseka, on Tuesday, June 7, 2011.

Ruth was born Oct. 31, 1925, in Cedar Falls, one of two children of Asmus L. and Florence Steen Nielsen. She attended Cedar Falls public schools, the University of Northern Iowa, and graduated from Iowa State University. She was a 64-year member of the American Dietetic Association and was chief dietician at Busey-Evans Hall at the University of Illinois when she met and subsequently married her husband, Robert L. Dannehl. They were married at the McKinley Foundation on the University campus by the Rev. James R. Hine on June 10, 1951.

She is survived by her loving husband and two children, Dr. Karl Dannehl and wife Mary of Atlanta and Sara Mikuta Henry and husband Robert of Western Springs, Ill., together with three grandsons, Joseph R. Mikuta, Nicholas J. Mikuta and John Z. Dannehl. Also surviving are her brother, John (Sue) Nielsen of Minneapolis, and nephews and niece, John E. Nielsen, David Nielsen and Joanne M. Nielsen. Also surviving are stepgranddaughters, Cherylyn Henry, Deanna Henry and Laurin Henry, and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 10, at Knapp Funeral Home, Watseka, and one hour prior to service at the church on Saturday. Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, June 11, at First United Methodist Church, Watseka, with the Rev. Paul Copeland officiating. Interment will follow in Onarga Cemetery, Onarga, Ill. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Iroquois Memorial Hospital Development Council or First United Methodist Church, Watseka.
