WATERLOO - Alfred W. Brase, 84, of Waterloo, died Wednesday, May 25, at ManorCare Health Services of cancer.

He was born July 18, 1926, in Horton, son of Carl and Hedwig Melchert Brase. He married Carrol Sauerbrei on July 12, 1947, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Waverly.

Mr. Brase graduated from Waverly High School in 1945. He was a machine operator at John Deere for 38 years, retiring in 1985. He also volunteered at Allen Memorial Hospital for 16 years and was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church where he was involved in construction of the church building.

Survived by his wife; four sons, Alan (Susan) of Cedar Falls, Steven (Carol) of West Des Moines, Marvin of Omaha, Neb., and Kent of Waterloo; a daughter, Janet (Jim) Morgan of Centerville, Ohio; 10 grandchildren, Andrew (Tamara Peklic), Elizabeth (Kyle Barker) and Alexander Brase, Suzanne (Bryan) Rahfeldt, Daniel, Randal and Julianne Morgan, Miranda Peterson, and Brittany and Hunter Brase; and two sisters-in-law, Lois Brase of Roseville, Minn., and Rosalie Brase of Plainfield.

Preceded in death by three brothers, his twin Alvin, and Gerhard and Herbert; and a sister, Irma Mattke.

Services: 2 p.m. Friday at Ascension Lutheran Church, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Locke Funeral Home.
