CEDAR FALLS - Lyle D. Smith, 76, of Cedar Falls, formerly of Waterloo, died Saturday, May 21, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home.

He was born March 19, 1935, in Waterloo, son of Walter A. and Edythe Joyner Smith. He married Connie Lee Davis June 8, 1952, in Waterloo. She died March 18, 2003.

He worked for Illinois Central Railroad, and later John Deere and Co. for 31 years, retiring in 1994. Mr. Smith was a bailiff at Black Hawk County Courthouse for several years after retirement. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Korean conflict.

Survived by a son, Robert (Linda) of Cedar Falls; two daughters, Diana (Jim) Kacher and Karen Davis, all of Waterloo; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a brother, Neil L. (Barb) of Austin, Texas.

Preceded in death by a brother, Wayne.

Memorial services: 2 p.m. Wednesday at Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel, Waterloo. Full military rites will be conducted by Becker-Chapman American Legion Post 138, Sullivan Brothers V.F.W. Post 1623 and Iowa Army National Guard Honors Detail. Public visitation will be held for an hour before services Wednesday at the funeral home.
