CEDAR FALLS - Laurie L. Platt, 52, of Cedar Falls, formerly of Westminster, Md., died Sunday, May 15, at Elizabeth E. Martin Health Center of Western Home Communities from complications of brain cancer

She was born Nov. 3, 1958, in Cedar Rapids, daughter of Jim and Phyllis Reimer Platt. She graduated from Waterloo West High School in 1977, and graduated Cum Laude in 1981 from Williamwoods Women College, Fulton, Mo., where she received a bachelor's degree in equestrian, accounting and home economics.

Ms. Platt worked for 24 years until 2009 at the National Security Agency for the Department of Defense at Fort Meade as an Intelligence Research Analyst. She served in the U.S. Army from 1981 to 1985. She was a member of South Waterloo Church of the Brethren, Black Hawk Saddle Club, 4H, Junior Achievement and was assistant commander of the Maryland Horse Search and Rescue Team

Survived by her parents of Cedar Falls; a brother, Dick (Lori) Platt of Waterloo; nephews and a niece, Cory (Jennifer) Platt, Casey (Barbara) Platt and Hailey Platt, all of Waterloo; and great-nieces and nephew, Rylee and Raeanne Platt, and Reed Platt

Memorial services 11 a.m. Thursday at South Waterloo Church of the Brethren, preceded by inurnment at 10 a.m. in Orange Township Cemetery. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Locke Funeral Home.

Memorials may be directed to the church or Western Home Employee Appreciation Fund.
