WASHBURN - William Donald Roberts, 88, of Washburn, died Friday, May 13, at La Porte City Nursing & Rehab, La Porte City, of natural causes.

He was born Aug 16, 1922, in Urbana, Ill., son of Clarence and Jesse Roberts. He married Eunice Barnhart on June 12, 1948, in Nashua.

Mr. Roberts worked as an assembler at John Deere for 34 years, retiring in 1982. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Survived by his wife; two sons, Dennis (Diane) of Hudson and Doug of Waterloo; three daughters, Sue Roberts of Washburn, Cheryl Baldwin of Eudora, Kan., and Marijo (Steve) Raecker of Waterloo; three grandchildren, Dana (Sharon) Roberts of Redding, Calif., Dixie Roberts of Knoxville, Tenn., and Jacob Raecker of Waterloo; a great-grandson, Jack Roberts of Redding; and a brother, Dave (Pat) of Springfield, Mo.

Bill enjoyed family gatherings, a Cubs fan forever and loved to spend time in his garden.

Preceded in death by his parents; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Wayne (Ruth), Dale (Jenny) and Charles (Joyce); and four sisters and three brothers-in-law, Inez (Stan) Van Koten, Dorothy Hammer, Lucille (Elmer) De Voe and Retha (Don) Stillabower.

Services 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Locke Funeral Home, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by Waterloo VFW Post 1623 and American Legion Post 138. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to Waterloo RiverLoop Public Market Cooperative or Cedar Bend Humane Society.
