WATERLOO - Robert G. Quirk, 83, of Waterloo, died at home Wednesday, April 27.

He was born Feb. 3, 1928, in New Hampton, son of Carl and Gertrude Gleason Quirk. He married Carmela J. Pirro on Sept. 3, 1951, at St. John's Catholic Church, Waterloo.

Mr. Quirk was a veteran of the Korean occupation. He worked for Firestone and later owned and operated B&Q Tire.

Survived by his wife; five daughters, Rebecca R. (Joe) Vasos of Fort Collins, Colo., Teresa A. (Greg) Racette of Urbandale, Patricia K. (David) Rausa and Rose M. Quirk, both of Waterloo, and Susan K. (Jim) Powers of Holt, Mich.; 13 grandchildren, Bobbe Bennett, Carmen Pollock, Will Vasos, Mollie Roach, Patrick Racette, Megan Omvig, Tony Rausa, Nathan Rausa, Elliot Rausa, Emily McAbier, Joe Powers, Jesse Powers and Haley Powers; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by his parents.

Services: 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Edward's Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery, where full military rites will be conducted by Waterloo AMVETS Post 19 and Evansdale AMVETS Post 31. Visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, with a 4 p.m. Knights of Columbus rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil; no visitation at the church preceding services.

Memorials may be made to Cedar Valley Catholic Schools, the church, or the Catholic Worker House.

Bob was loved and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He enjoyed thoroughbred horse racing, and he finished his race well.
