Janice (Leisinger) Dryer, 51, of the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home and formerly of Denver and Rockford, died Tuesday morning, April 26, 2011 at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo from complications of pulmonary hypertension.
Janice was born on January 13, 1960, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of Marvin and LuAnn (Foelske) Leisinger. She was baptized on January 31, 1960 and confirmed on May 1, 1975 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Denver. Janice attended the Denver School System, graduating in 1978 from the Denver High School, where she received the Principals Award (Valedictorian of her class) and also was a Regents Scholar. During the summer following high school, she worked nights at the Lazy H Motel in Waterloo. Janice then attended Wartburg College in Waverly, graduating in 1982 with a double major in Business Administration & Accounting. Following her education, Janice lived for a short time south of Denver, where she worked for Chase Auto Parts in Waterloo as their accountant. She then moved to Davenport, Iowa, where she became employed with the Iowa Department of Revenue & Finance as an auditor. Janice worked for the State of Iowa for about 16 years, before moving back to Denver. She also lived in the communities of Sumner, Ionia and Rockford, before moving back to Denver. On December 13, 2010, Janice became a resident of the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home.
Janice was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Denver and during her younger years was involved with Luther League. Janice had a great love for animals, especially her dog "Simba" who was her best friend and companion. Janice loved spending time with her family and friends who she dearly loved; she was a very caring person.
She is survived by her father, Marvin Leisinger of Denver, Iowa; two brothers, David Leisinger of Denver, Iowa, Alan (Kendra) Leisinger of Ankeny, Iowa; two sisters, Julie Leisinger of Oelwein, Iowa, Nancy Dryer of Denver, Iowa; 3 nieces, Madisyn, Amber, Marissa, and 3 nephews, Aidan, Johnathan and Cameron. Janice is also survived by several aunts, uncles and cousins. Janice was preceded in death by her mother, LuAnn Leisinger on October 21, 2003, her grandparents, Henry (Hilda) Leisinger, Herman (Minnie) Foelske, and her uncle, Lavern Leisinger.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Denver, with Pastor Gary Olson (Chaplain at Cedar Falls Lutheran Home) officiating. Burial will be in St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery in Denver. Public visitation will be held on Friday, April 29th from 6:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Denver and also for an hour prior to services Saturday at the church. Memorials may be directed to the family, where a memorial direction will be established at a later date. Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Denver is in charge of services. 319-984-5379
