Belle Markovitz Krantz passed away of natural causes on April 22, 2011, in Minneapolis.

Belle was born Feb. 28, 1914, near Gomel, Russian Empire (now Belarus). She emigrated with her mother and sisters through Ellis island in 1921. They were reunited with her father in America, and she grew up in Iowa City, Iowa. She was a graduate of the University of Iowa, a teacher, homemaker and an extraordinarily determined and accomplished athlete until well into her 80s.

Belle was married to Seymour E. Krantz for 61 years. They lived in Waterloo, Iowa, where they raised their daughters Susan (Lazar) and Judy (Gaviser).

Belle is survived by her daughters, son-in-law James Gaviser, grandchildren Mark Lazar (Sarah Quimby), Debbie Winick (Adam), Michael Gaviser (Lauren), and Sara Leslie (Josh), and nine great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 24, at Adath Yeshurun Cemetery, 56th and France, Edina. Family and friends will gather at Roitenberg Assisted Living, 3610 Phillips Parkway, St. Louis Park at 5 p.m. on Sunday and at the Gaviser's home, 3141 Dean Court #1201 at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.
