WATERLOO - George Epps Sr., 84, of Waterloo, died at home Wednesday, April 20, of natural causes.

He was born Aug. 19, 1926, in Lexington, Miss., son of Dave Sr. and Dora Williams Epps. He married Stella M. Harmon on May 13, 1980, in Waverly.

Mr. Epps was employed by John Deere Waterloo Tractor Works for 34 years, retiring in 1987. He was member of UAW Local 838; sang with the Spiritual Four; and was a member of St. John Church of the First Born, where he was a deacon.

Survived by his wife; 18 children, Anna Rea Jefferson, Joyce Hunter, Georgia Collins, Jonnie Mae Thomas, Ernest Balkman, Vanessa Epps, Kornell (Wendy) Epps, Josette Bates, George (Heather) Epps Jr. and Telly Epps, all of Waterloo, Mary Hannah of Rockford, Ill., Ricky Hannah of Oakland, Calif., Vickie Walton of Cleveland, Andy Collins of Compton, Calif., Walter Reed of O'Fallon, Ill., Pedro Hayes of Des Moines, Sidney (Linda) Epps of Fayetteville, N.C., and Faye (Tony) French of Cedar Falls; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Dave Epps Jr. and Jessie Earl Garnett; and a sister, Bertha Epps.

Preceded in death by his parents; a son, Larnell Epps; a brother, Jonathan Williams; and two sisters, Mary Rimpson and Maggie Rainey.

Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday at Payne Memorial AME Church, with burial in Fairview Cemetery. Visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel, and for an hour before services Tuesday at the church.
