CEDAR FALLS - John A. "Jack" Johns, 73, of Cedar Falls, died Wednesday, April 20, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home, Waterloo.
He was born Dec. 26, 1937, in Du Bois, Pa., son of Challis and Kathryn Jones Johns. He married Priscilla Webster on Nov. 22, 1958, in Buffalo, N.Y.
Mr. Johns served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1955 to 1958. He came to Cedar Falls as president of Viking Pump from 1986 to 1989. He served as group executive and later became chief operating officer of the IDEX Corp., Chicago, retiring from the corporation in 1994. He was active in the Foundation Fighting Blindness in Maryland and founded an FFB support group in the Cedar Valley. He was the original chairman of the advisory board for the Center of Macular Degeneration at the University of Iowa, which is now developed into the University of Iowa Institute for Vision Research.
Survived by his wife; a son, Richard (Marina) of Orlando, Fla.; two daughters, Kimberlee Johns of Atlanta and Tracy Johns of Cedar Falls; three grandchildren, Alberto, Pricilla and Richard "R.J" Johns; and a sister, Patricia Pochopin of Naples, Fla.
Preceded in death by his parents.
Family will receive friends from 4 to 5 p.m. Saturday at Richardson Funeral Home.
