WATERLOO - Rita Kelly, 88, of Waterloo, died Sunday, April 17, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home.

She was born Nov. 26, 1922, in Alta Vista, daughter of Harry and Catherine Buckley O'Neil. She married Rolland Kelly on May 1, 1947, in San Francisco. He died Jan. 30, 1988.

Mrs. Kelly was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. She was a registered nurse at St. Francis Hospital and later became director of nursing at Parkview Nursing and Rehab Center, retiring in 1980. Following her retirement, she worked at Again & Again Consignment Shop for 12 years.

In 2009, Rita was recognized for her military service and went on an Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. It was a high point in her life.

Survived by three sons, Dan, Larry and Tom, all of Waterloo; two daughters, Rebecca Naughton of Cedar Rapids and Mary Jo Sires of Elk Run Heights; nine grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; and two sisters, Ruby Gonzales of Banning, Calif., and Pat (Fred) Worple of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by an infant son, Timothy; a sister; and two brothers.

Services 11 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Full graveside military rites will be conducted by Evansdale AMVETS Post 31, Waterloo AMVETS Post 19 and the Iowa Army Honor Guard. Visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, where there will be a 4 p.m. rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil service. Visitation also an hour before services Wednesday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the Cedar Valley Hospice Home or the church.
