Madeline R. “Penny” Fratzke, 88 of La Porte City, died Monday afternoon, March 28, 2011, at the La Porte City Nursing and Rehab Center.

She was born April 13, 1922 in East Moline, IL, the daughter of Frank and Mary Koplenik Penca. She married Frederick A. Fratzke on October 15, 1942 in Ogallala, NE. He preceded her in death on December 24, 1993.

Penny was a clerk at the Fareway Store in Vinton for 15 years. She was a loving mother and grandmother and enjoyed time with family and friends. Her avidness for crossword puzzles was only surpassed by watching the Cubs or tennis. She was also known as the “Trivia” Queen.

She is survived by three sons, David (Linda) Fratzke of La Grande, OR, William (Mary) Fratzke of La Porte City and Thomas (Sharon) Fratzke of West Linn, OR; one sister, Louise Polich of Silvis, IL; six grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by four sisters, Frances Penca, Helen Brown, Jenny Nache and Mary Peal; and two brothers, Frank and Lewis Penca.

There will be a Celebration of Life Service at a later date. He body has been cremated. Those who wish may direct memorials to the La Porte City Nursing and Rehab Center or the family.

La Porte City funeral service is in charge of arrangements.
