Marvin Dirks

Marvin was born on March 2, 1933, in Reinbeck, Iowa, the son of Volta and Jesse (Cummings) Dirks. He graduated from Waterloo West High School.

He was united in marriage to Mary Jo Sadler on May 14, 1955 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Waterloo, Iowa.

Marvin was employed by Esser Glass and Paint for thirty years, and later employed with Oelwein Glass Co. for seventeen years, retiring in 1997.

Marvin was involved with gymnastics as a coach at the YMCA, before co-founding CHIPS and coaching there as well. He was a Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, and participated as a volunteer with the Waterloo Schools Special Reading Buddy Program.

Marvin is survived by his wife, Mary Jo; three daughters, Kelly (Nick) Evens and Cindy (Peter) Olson of Cedar Falls, and Kim (Jeff) Kohagen of Burnsville, Minnesota; six grandchildren, Justin and Courtney Olson of Cedar Falls, Liz, Sara, and Abby Kohagen of Burnsville, Minnesota, and Megan Evens of Cedar Falls; twin sister, Marilyn (Ron) Jackson; and aunt, Fran Schroyer.

He was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter Kaitlyn Jo Evens; and brother, Paul Dirks, Sr.

Funeral service 10:30 AM Wednesday, October 25, 2006 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Cedar Falls, Iowa.
