Alvetta was born July 6, 1908, in Mahaska County, Iowa, the daughter of Lee and Mary (Williams) McNeal. She died Tuesday, March 18, 2003, at the Western Home Communities in Cedar Falls.

On May 14, 1932, she was united in marriage to Bush D. Dodd in Lancaster, Missouri. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Northern Iowa. She taught 4th and 5th grades at Cedar Heights Elementary and Orchard Hill Elementary School in the Cedar Falls Community School District for 26 years. She was a member of the Cedar Falls Women’s Club and the United Church of Christ.

Alvetta is survived by two sons and their wives, Jack and Ann Dodd of Ames and Bill and Barb Dodd of Waterloo; four grandchildren, Angie Dodd of Oak Park, IL, Heather Dodd of Lancaster, PA, T.J. Dodd of Cedar Falls and Jenny Dodd of Waterloo; eight great grand-children, Noah, London and Grace Ann Dodd, Ethan, Elliot and Ben Mertz and twins, Cade and Caleb Dodd; three brothers, George McNeal of Palm Desert, CA, Don McNeal of Santa Cruz, CA and Jim McNeal of Show Low, AZ and two sisters, Esther Hildebrand of Grinnell and Colleen Ferguson of Searsboro.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Luverna Rice and Nellie Stanford and brother, Virgil McNeal.

Funeral service Monday, March 24, 2003 11:00 AM at United Church of Christ, Cedar Falls, Iowa. Burial at Fairview Cemetery.
