Evelyn was born May 14, 1920, in Frederika, Iowa, the daughter of Ernest and Emma (Bartelt) Buckendahl.

On March 11, 1938, she was united in marriage to Raymond Dirksen in Nevada, Iowa. He died January 21, 1987. She farmed with her husband in Frederika before moving to Cedar Falls in 1971.

She was a member of Nazareth Lutheran Church, where she served on the Sunshine Committee for several years, past Review Board member, and volunteer and also volunteered at the Western Home Communities.

Evelyn is survived by her daughters, Sandra Okoye of Chicago, IL, Sydney (Mark) Wikner of Cedar Falls, and Kathleen (Roger) Elsberry of Urbandale; son, David (Bev) Dirksen of Iowa Falls; seven grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; and brother, Fredrick Buckendahl of Kelso, WA.

Evelyn died Sunday, April 16, 2006, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three brothers, Arnold, August, and Leo Buckendahl; and sister, Vera Carroll.
