WATERLOO - Herbert Bernard Kanofsky, 89, of Tustin, Calif., formerly of Waterloo, died Wednesday, March 9 in Orange, Calif..

He was born June 22, 1921, in Waterloo, son of Mary and Jake Kanofsky. He married Sylvia Widerschein Feb. 27, 1949, in Louisville, Ky. She preceded him in death.

He was the proprietor of Jake & Bill Clothing Store and later, the president of H&F Realty Co.. The couple lived in Waterloo until 1988. Mr. Kanofsky served in the U.S. Army Air Core in the South Pacific during World War II. He was a member of Martin Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite Temple, El Kahir Shrine, Waterloo Elks Club, B'nai B'rith, and Sons of Jacob Synagogue in Waterloo.

Survived by a brother, Dr. F.J. of Santa Barbara, Calif.; two sons, Dr. Myron (Carol) of Irvine, Calif., and Gordon (Marcia) of Tarzana, Calif.; and three granddaughters.

Preceded in death a granddaughter.

Memorial services were 1 p.m. March 11 at Pacific View Memorial Park, Newport Beach, Calif.
