WATERLOO - Joseph D. "Joe" Halter, 67, of Waterloo, died Thursday, March 17, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home after a long illness.

He was born Dec. 16, 1943, in Waterloo, son of Leland and Bernita Hassler Halter. He married Coleen Hennings May 28, 1966, in Denver. They later divorced. He married Allison C. Dikancic March 20, 1996, in Las Vegas.

Mr. Halter was employed by John Deere & Co. for 28 years, retiring in 2003. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Vietnam Era.

Survived by his wife; three sons, Brad and Dustin, both of Cedar Falls, and Geno (Mary) Gardner of Mesa, Ariz.; four daughters, Michelle (Gary) Minikus of North Liberty, Roxanne (Mike) Klingbeil of Sheboygan, Wis., Cindy (Rod Duggan) Gardner of Evansdale and Trinity (Bill) Rogers of Waterloo; a sister, Jackie (Jerry) Hardy of Cedar Falls; a half sister, Joann (Jim) Hall of Kansas City, Mo.; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services 11 a.m. Monday at Garden View Chapel Funeral Home, with entombment in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Public visitation from 2 to 5 p.m. today and for an hour before services Monday at the funeral home. Military rites will be conducted by Waterloo AMVET Post 19, Evansdale AMVET Post 31, and Iowa Army National Guard Honors Detail.
