WATERLOO - Wayne A. Syverson, 87, of Waterloo, died Tuesday, March 8, at Westbrook Acres, Gladbrook.

He was born April 27, 1923, in Chippewa County, Minn., son of Arthur O. and Nettie Nelson Syverson. He married Leah M. Bell on Nov. 22, 1962, in Chicago. She died May 14, 1988.

Mr. Syverson graduated from Kerkhoven High School in 1941. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, completing basic training at Camp Pendleton and serving in the South Pacific. He then moved to Sioux Falls, S.D., for two years, before moving to Waterloo, where he worked at John Deere Tractor Works for more than 30 years. He was a member of Immanuel Presbyterian Church and active in Becker-Chapman American Legion Post 138 and the Drum and Bugle Corps.

Survived by a brother, Orrian (Arlene) of Willmar, Minn.; a nephew, Kent Syverson; and a niece, Dawn (David) Capp, and their two daughters, Hannah and Lydia.

Preceded in death by: an infant brother; and a sister, Marjorie Syverson.

Services 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel on Kimball, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and an hour before services Saturday at the funeral home. Military rites will be conducted by Becker-Chapman American Legion Post 138 and VFW Post 1623.

Memorials may be directed to Immanuel Presbyterian Church.
