LA PORTE CITY — Winona R. "Nonie" Fehl, 90, of La Porte City, died Tuesday, March 8, at La Porte City Nursing and Rehab Center.

She was born Sept. 26, 1920, in Littleton, daughter of Edward and Amanda Benordin Jesse. She married Merlin B. Fehl on Sept. 9, 1950, in Nebraska City, Neb. He died March 20, 1991.

Mrs. Fehl and her husband farmed near La Porte City for many years. She was a member of American Lutheran Church in La Porte City and served as the volunteer organist for the congregation for 35 years. She also was a volunteer at Allen Hospital, Waterloo, for more than 20 years.

Survived by a daughter, Margaret Jean Russell of Omaha, Neb.; a son, Dean (Mary Jo) of La Porte City; five grandchildren, Stephanie (Rodney) Fredrick of Krum, Texas, Jeffrey Russell of Elkhorn, Neb., Alissa (Brad) Schmitz and Ben (Sandy) Fehl, both of La Porte City, and Brandt (Andrea) Fehl of Cedar Rapids; eight great-grandchildren, Sam Fehl, Shay Fehl, Josef, Mack, Amelia and Nash Schmitz, and Katherine and Jacqueline Fredrick; two sisters, Wilma Marshall of La Porte City and Margaret (Dr. Richard) Brust of Monmouth, Ore.; and three brothers, Leland (Betty) and Willard (Lois) Jesse, both of La Porte City, and Edward Jesse of Jesup.

Preceded in death by a sister, Florence McDonald; and four brothers, Melvin Jesse in infancy, and Raymond, Russell and Virden Jesse.

Services 10:30 a.m. Friday at American Lutheran Church, with burial in West View Cemetery, both in La Porte City. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at La Porte City Funeral Service, and for an hour before services Friday at the church.

Nonie loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
