CEDAR FALLS — Margaret M. Kalkbrenner, 94, of Cedar Falls, died Monday, March 7, at Windsor Nursing and Rehab Center, Waterloo.

She was born July 1, 1916, in Buffalo Center, daughter of Johanan and Sophia Karsen Wilkens. She married John "Johnny" Brekunitch in 1933 at Buffalo Center. She later married Clarence "Jim" Kalkbrenner on Nov. 13, 1967, in Missouri. He died Nov. 18, 2008.

Mrs. Kalkbrenner worked on the assembly line at Rath Packing Co., retiring after 27 years of service. After retirement she volunteered in the gift shop at Allen Hospital for 18 years. She was a member at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and the AMVETS Women’s Auxiliary.

Survived by a son, John (Mary Kay) Breck of Lady Lake, Fla.; a daughter-in-law, Kathy Breckunitch of Waterloo; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by a son, Jim Breckunitch; three brothers, Bill, John and Robert Wilkens; and eight sisters, Emma Dutton, Mary St. John, Elsie Wilkens, Mata Casey, Jennie Andrist, Peg Honcik, Elizabeth Anderson and Dorothy Kramer.

Services: 11 a.m. Thursday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery, both in Waterloo. Visitation an hour before services Thursday at the church. Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service, Waterloo, is in charge of arrangements.

In her free time, Margaret enjoyed puzzles and word finds. She and her family deeply appreciated the friendship and kindness shown to her at Windsor Care Facility. The nurses and aides were her "angels." She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
