MILLER, SCHLESING, BOEHMER, CURTIS

DENVER – Louis A. Miller, 78, of Denver, died Monday, March 7, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home, Waterloo.

He was born Nov. 3, 1932, in Elma, son of Julius H. "Jake" and Mamie I. Schlesing Miller. He married Lois M. Boehmer on April 21, 1953, in Alta Vista.

Mr. Miller graduated from Alta Vista High School in 1952. He worked at Rath Packing Co., Waterloo, in the hog kill for 29 years; IBP for three years; and operated Miller Trucking Co. for 40 years.

Survived by his wife; two sons, Wilfred E. "Wil" (Jan) of Madison, Wis., and Warren L. of Whitewater, Wis.; a daughter, Wanda L. (David) Curtis of Mount Pleasant; five grandchildren, Edward, Jennifer and Jessie Miller, and Peter (Kristen) and Amanda Curtis; a great-granddaughter, Amelia Curtis; a brother, Kenneth (Norma) of Waterloo; and a sister-in-law, Doris Miller of Alta Vista.

Preceded in death by a brother, Donald.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Denver, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery, Waterloo. Visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Garden View Chapel Funeral Home, Waterloo, and for an hour before services Friday at the church.

Louis was known for sawing trees and selling firewood all his life and was a noted can farmer. He also enjoyed fishing, camping and polka dancing.

Memorials may be directed to the church, Cedar Valley Hospice in Waverly, or the family.
