WATERLOO — Dorothy L. Sallis, 85, of Waterloo, died Thursday, March 3, in Fort Worth, Texas.

She was born June 6, 1925, in Taylor, Miss., daughter of Philmore Lockhart and Ina B. Kirkwood. She married Jesse Cosby in 1946, and they later divorced. She married Willie Sallis in 1957, and they later divorced.

Ms. Sallis retired from Juvenile Court Services after 25 years.

Survived by two daughters, Beverly A. Cosby and Eula J. Harris, both of Waterloo; four sons, Dennis H. of Fort Worth and Wayne B. Sallis of Dallas, Larry (Barb) Sallis of Waterloo and Terry (Karen) Sallis of Newton; 16 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; and a special cousin, Doris Campbell.

Preceded in death by her former husbands; two sons, Morris Rodell and Jesse Jr.; a daughter, Mary Louise; and a great-grandchild, Bry Shon Sallis.

Services: 11 a.m. Friday at Payne Memorial AME Church, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the church, with a 5:30 p.m. Pythian service, followed by a Missionary Society service. Sanders Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Dorothy leaves a host of special friends and associates throughout the community, state and all over the country.

Memorials may be directed to the family at 321 E. Arlington St., where they will receive friends.
