EVANSDALE - Willis J. "Bill" West Sr., 90, of Evansdale, died Wednesday, March 2, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home.

He was born Aug. 11, 1920, in Fairbank, son of Edwin J. and Ida B. Fettkether West. He married Marvella Gillespie Jan. 15, 1947, in Waterloo. She died July 7, 1985.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II. He was employed with John Deere Waterloo Tractor Works for 33 years, retiring in August 1981.

Survived by four sons, Bill Jr. (Nancy) of Cedar Falls, Tom (Sally) of Jesup, Rich of Irvine, Calif., and Denny of Evansdale; three daughters, Katherine Smith of Redmond, Wash., Barb Janssen of Lakewood, Colo., and Sandy Moon of Evansdale; eight grandchildren, Heather (Derrick) Walton, Blair West, Meagan (Adam) Feltes, Emily (Jason) South, Jessica Janssen, Jocelyn Gunter, Yvonne Brown and Zoe West; two great-grandchildren, Brady Walton and Sophia Walton; and a sister, Marcella (Ivan) Gipper of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by two sisters, Erma Randall and Dorothy in infancy; and three brothers, Louis, Robert West and Urban in infancy.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery, where full military rites will be conducted by Evansdale Amvets Post 31, Waterloo Amvets Post 19 and the Iowa Army Honor Guard. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, with a 4 p.m. Legion of Mary rosary and 7 p.m. vigil service. Visitation also for an hour before services Monday at the church.

He enjoyed watching old westerns and following politics in his recliner and being with his family.

Memorials may be directed to Queen Of Peace Catholic Church or Cedar Valley Hospice.
