WATERLOO - Delford W. "Del" Johnson, 82, of Waterloo, died Friday, March 4, at Parkview Nursing and Rehab Center in Waterloo.

He was born Oct. 3, 1928, in Minneapolis, son of Walter and Rosa Groehler Johnson. He married Armond M. Petersen May 6, 1972, in Minneapolis.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Johnson was wounded in action twice and awarded the Purple Heart medal with an oak leaf cluster. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Minneapolis for more than 30 years. He was a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers for more than 50 years and a member of AARP.

Survived by his wife; five sons, Dennis Hartness of Waterloo, Steve Hartness of Santa Cruz, Calif., Cliff "Loren" Hartness of Dewar, Rick (Kari) Hoeg of Brooklyn Park, Minn., and Bryan (Susan) Hoeg of Clarksville; two daughters, Christi (Owen) Smith of LeMars and Carol Hanson of Clarksville; 20 grandchildren, Richard, Neal, Debbie, Sharon, Daniel, Tom, Lucy, Heather, Eric, Adam, Christian, Matt, Steven, Terry, Jason, Jesse, Kyle, Colin, Brandon and Mason; and many great grandchildren.

Preceded in death by a son, Allan Hartness; a grandson, Corey Lewis; a granddaughter, Chelena Hartness; a brother, Gordon Johnson; and a sister, Pearl Johnson.

Services: 11 a.m. Monday at Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel, Waterloo, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery with full military honors accorded by Becker-Chapman American Legion Post 138, VFW Post 1623 and the Iowa Army National Guard Honors Detail. Public visitation will be held for an hour before services Monday at the funeral Home.
