SPRING, NIEMANTS

CEDAR FALLS — Roberta F. Spring, 63, of Cedar Falls, died Wednesday, March 2, at Western Home Communities Elizabeth Martin Health Center, from multiple sclerosis and leukemia.

She was born Aug. 8, 1947, in Knoxville, daughter of Charlie R. and Cecil Fay Niemants Spring. She graduated from Knoxville High School in 1965 and earned her bachelor's degree from the University of Northern Iowa in 1969. After teaching in Albia, she returned to UNI to pursue her master's degree. She then worked at Schultz Manufacturing, Oster Communications and Nazareth Lutheran Church.

Ms. Spring was a member of Metropolitan Chorale and served on their board. She was a member of Nazareth Lutheran Church where she sang in the choir, was a circle member and participated in centering prayer.

Survived by her mother of Knoxville; two sisters, Karen Spring of Des Moines and Sharon Spring of Cedar Falls; caregiver and friend, Jane Mertesdorf of Cedar Falls; and her aunt, Lil Niemants, and cousins from Omaha.

Preceded in death by her father; and her uncle, Leo Niemants.

Services: 6 p.m. Saturday at Nazareth Lutheran Church, Cedar Falls, with burial in Graceland Cemetery, Knoxville. Visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home.

Memorials may be directed to the church or donor's choice.

Roberta loved Bible study and prayer, travel (especially shelling on Sanibel Island, Fla.), her dogs, Smokey and Annie; reading, music and stuffed animals.

The family wishes to thank the caring CNA staff at Stanard Assisted Living and Martin Center and to the Cedar Valley Hospice staff.
