STOUT - Alvin Marion Wilkens, 78, of Cedar Falls, formerly of Stout, died Friday, Feb. 25, at the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home from natural causes.

He was born Feb. 14, 1933, in rural Butler County, near Parkersburg, son of Willie and Tisha Timmer Wilkens. On Sept. 12, 1958, he married Mildred Andreessen at the Reformed Church of Stout, Stout. She died Aug. 9, 2009.

Mr. Wilkens worked for his father on the family farm before serving in the U.S. Army. He worked for Rath Packing Co. for a short time before going to work at John Deere Waterloo Tractor Works, retiring in 1992. He was a member of the Reformed Church of Stout.

Survived by a son, David (Marsha) of Cedar Falls; four daughters, Sheila (Dennis) Diekman of Springville, Sandra Wilkens (Bruce Davis) of Cedar Falls, Sherri (Dave) Petersen of Dike and Deanne (John) Ross of Stout; nine grandchildren, Joel, Brent and Daniel Wilkens, Brittany Ross, Jeremy Diekman, Crystal (Jesse) Crippen, Ashley Diekman, Nicole (J.J.) Floss, and Josh (Josie) Petersen; four great-grandchildren, Ashtyn Diekman, Caden Cavin, Justine Diekman and JaeLynn Shipley; and two sisters, Frances Frieling of Parkersburg and Karen (Tom) Stone of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by a granddaughter, Desiree Diekman; and three brothers, Bill, Frank and Larry Wilkens.

Services: 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Reformed Church of Stout, with burial in Stout Cemetery. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home, Parkersburg, and for an hour before services Tuesday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice, Alzheimer's Association, Parkersburg American Legion Post 285 or The Reformed Church of Stout.

Alvin enjoyed gardening, watching some of his favorite television shows, such as the Lawrence Welk Show, All Star Wrestling and westerns along with a bowl of popcorn.
