WATERLOO - Charles Dean Becker, 78, of Waterloo, died at home Sunday, Feb. 20.

He was born Feb. 21, 1932, in Boone, son of John R. and Ethel T. Merriam Becker. He married Eunice M. Kleppe on Aug. 14, 1965, in Cedar Rapids.

Mr. Becker served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict from 1952-1954. He was an instrumental music teacher from 1963-1977, and from 1977 on he was an insurance agent and eventual owner of Gast-Bandy-Becker Insurance, retiring in 1997.

Survived by his wife; a son, Jason P. (Amy) of Roanoke, Va.; a daughter, Maureen E. (Bryan) Bennett of Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren, Michael, Megan and Emma Bennett, all of Cedar Rapids, and Olivia Becker of Roanoke; a sister, Jean R. Eskridge of Hinesville, Ga.; and a brother, the Rev. Jack L. (Donna) Becker of Boone.

Preceded in death by an infant son, Matthew Dean Becker.

Services: 1 p.m. Friday at Glad Tidings Assembly of God Church, with burial in Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, and for an hour before services Friday at the church.
