CEDAR FALLS - William D. "Bill" McFadden, 87, of Cedar Falls, died Tuesday, Feb. 15, at Allen Hospital of natural causes.

He was born Dec. 1, 1923, in Strawberry Point, son of Ralph and Ruth Eckhert McFadden. He married Ruth A. Thompson March 25, 1944, in Treasure Island, Calif.

He graduated from Waterloo East High School in 1942, and from the tool and die apprenticeship program at John Deere. Mr. McFadden worked at John Deere for 39 years, retiring as supervisor in tool and die in 1981. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Survived by his wife; three daughters, Lynn McFadden of Cedar Falls, Jann (Don) Lucas of Leavenworth, Kan., and Susan (Brent) Nelson of Cedar Falls; and two grandchildren.

Preceded in death by his parents, a stepfather, Al Knocke; and a sister, Bonnie Whitley.

Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday at Ascension Lutheran Church, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery with military rites by Cedar Falls Amvets Post 49. Public visitation for an hour before services Tuesday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to Ascension Lutheran Church Building Fund or Cedar Valley Hospice.
