WATERLOO - Roland Gardner, 91, of Waterloo, died Tuesday, Jan. 25, at Ravenwood Nursing & Rehab Center of natural causes.

He was born April 10, 1919, in Luck, Wis., son of Clarence and Mattie Sawyer Gardner. He married Dorothy Arlene Nass on Feb. 10, 1942, in Lancaster, Mo.

Mr. Gardner was employed at John Deere & Co. for 38 years, retiring in 1978. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II.

Survived by his wife; two sons, David (Anne) of Oakland, N.J., and Don (Susan Rae) of Waterloo; seven grandchildren, Teri-Anne Foster, Amy (Todd) Burch, Jason (Nikki) Gardner, Matthew (Julie) Gardner, Danielle Gardner, Loren (Carlene) Gardner and Deanna Gardner; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by his parents; seven brothers, Everett Sawyer and Ray, Roger, Richard, Robert, Ralph and Russell Gardner; and six sisters, Anna Flugge, Alma Quail, Mary Nass, Helen Willard, Bernice Meister and Martha Buck.

Services: 2 p.m. Friday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Public visitation from 5 to 9 p.m. today at Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel, and an hour before services Friday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the family.
