CEDAR FALLS — Richard James Peterson, 74, of Cedar Falls, died Wednesday, Jan. 26, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City.

He was born April 25, 1936, in Frederika, son of Albert and Doris Simerson Peterson. He married Marcella M. "Marci" Kistner on July 14, 1956, at Marengo. She died Aug. 22, 2008.

Mr. Peterson served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean conflict. He was an assembler and repairman at John Deere & Co. for 35 years, retiring in 1992.

Survived by three daughters, Sheri Rucker and Pam (Tony) Burns, both of Cedar Falls, and Sandi (Ken) Galloway of Chandler, Ariz.; six grandchildren, Josh, Jeremy and Jamie Rucker, Christy (Tim) Butler and Tanner and Faith Galloway; two great-grandchildren, Olivia and Jacob; a brother, Curt (Janet) Peterson of Frankfurt, Ind.; and two sisters, Mary Havelock of Frankfurt and Donna White of Independence.

Preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Lori Burns; three brothers, Donald, John and Albert; and three sisters, Kathryn and Kate Peterson and Marlys Mathes.

Services: 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, with burial in Hillside Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. today and an hour before services Saturday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to Waverly Pet Rescue.

Richard was a proud Marine and was a member of the Marine Corps League.
