CEDAR FALLS - Mary Ella Shorter, 80, of Cedar Falls, died at home Friday, Jan. 21.

She was born May 21, 1930, in Swea City, daughter of Clarence and Viola Edith Schisel Ball. She married Sheldon Shorter on Dec. 24, 1948, in El Dorado, Ark. He died June 1, 1988.

Mrs. Shorter was co-owner of Shorter's Gala Midway and was past president of the Midwest Showman's Club.

Survived by: a son, Steve of Cedar Falls; a daughter, Sandra Shorter of Whetstone, Ariz.; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Marlin (Glee) Ball of Waverly; three sisters, Verla Endelman of Clarksville, LaDonna Spencer of Plainfield and Dorene (Don) Miller of Waverly; and two sisters-in-law, Darlene Ball of Geneseo, Ill., and Anna Rose Ball of Waverly.

Preceded in death by: a daughter, Shelda Miller; two sisters, Alpha and Valora Greenlee; and four brothers, Gene, Ernie and LeRoy Ball and Charles Ball in infancy.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Central Christian Church, with burial in Elmwood Cemetery, both in Waterloo. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel, Waterloo, and for an hour before services Thursday at the church.
