WASHBURN - Marilyn Ann Schuchhardt, 75, of Washburn, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, at Allen Hospital, Waterloo, of natural causes.

She was born Nov. 13, 1935, daughter of Merrill and Lena Marie DeJaeger Nelson. She married Orval Albert Schuchhardt on Dec. 5, 1953, in Waterloo. He died March 14, 2009.

Mrs. Schuchhardt graduated from Orange High School in 1952. She was the office manager for ASCS (Black Hawk County Farm Service Agency) for 42 years, retiring in 1996. She was elected to two terms as the commissioner for Black Hawk County Soil & Water Conservation District; was a member of American Business Women's Association and Mended Hearts at Allen Hospital; and held offices with NASCOE and NARFE. She also was active in her church.

Survived by: a son, James (Suzette) of Waterloo; a daughter, Brenda (Lowell) Edgerton of La Porte City; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; four brothers, Gerald (Lynn), Paul (Leann) and Ronald (Bonnie) Nelson, all of Waterloo, and Dale (Mariann) Nelson of Parkersburg; two sisters, Barb (Dale) Petersen and Mary (Garry) Stoelting, both of Waterloo; and a sister-in-law, Lois Nelson of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by: her parents; a son, Brian; a daughter, Jacqueline Whited; a brother, Donald Nelson; and a sister, Darlene Sells.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Washburn, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery, Waterloo. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, Waterloo, and for an hour before services Friday at the church.

Memorials: may be made to the family, with the beneficiary to be determined at a later date.
