GILBERTVILLE - Eugene "Gene" Demuth, 85, of Oxnard, Calif., formerly of Gilbertville, died Dec. 17 at St. John's Hospital, Oxnard, of melanoma.

He was born July 13, 1925, in Gilbertville, son of Anna Frances and John Demuth. He married Mabel Shelton June 2, 1947.

Mr. Demuth joined the U.S. Navy in 1942 and retired after 20 years, He and his family moved to Oxnard in 1962, where he worked for the post officer as a mail carrier, retiring in 1984.

Survived by: his wife; three daughters, Kathleen (Frank) Stehli of Patterson, Calif., Joan (Gary) Mayeda and Mary (Bob) Anderson, both of Oxnard; 11 grandchildren; and two sisters, Joan (Milt) Roth and Mary (John) Brouwer, both of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by: a brother, Clete; and a sister, Kay.

Services: were Dec. 23 at Santa Clara Mortuary, with burial in Santa Clara Cemetery, both in Oxnard.
