Stanley G. Wood

CEDAR FALLS-Services for Stanley G, Wood, 67, of 1703 Campus St., are pending at the Dahl-VanHove-Schoof Funeral Home.

Mr. Wood, a 30-year veteran of Theatre UNI and a professor of speech at the University of Northern Iowa, died at home Wednesday morning of a heart attack.

He was director of the theatre program at UNI at the time of his death and had been active in UNI theater productions since joining the. staff in 1946.

He received his bachelor's degree from UNI in 1931 and a master's degree from Western Reserve University in Cleveland. He also studied at the U.C.L.A. Motion Picture Workshop.

During World War II he served with the Army Engineers, part of the time as a Special Services theatrical director. He produced, "OK U.S.A." with Mickey Rooney and the movie toured most of western Europe in 1945.

He received the Rockefeller Fellowship from the National Theater Conference in 1946 and completed his masters degree during that time.

Prior to joining the UNI faculty in 1946, Mr. Wood taught various summers at the University of Vermont, served on the staff of the Studio Theater, a federal theater project in New York City, and was designer for several Rhode Island playhouses.

During his more than 30 years at UNI, Mr. Wood initiated a number of courses and projects and directed, designed or supervised student direction and design for more than 125 major productions and many students experimental productions.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn, and two sons.

CEDAR FALLS-Memorial services for Stanley G. Wood, 67, at 1703 Campus St., will be 2 p.m. Friday-at St. Luke's Episcopal Church. The remains will be buried at a later date in Greenwood Cemetery.

He died at home Wednesday morning of a heart attack. The family suggests memorials, to the Strayer-Wood Theater Fund at the University of Northern Iowa.

Mr. Wood was born Jan. 31, 1909. in Waterloo, the son of' George and Jessie Beatrice Croak Wood. He married Evelyn Starkey May 23, 1950, in Cedar Falls.

Survivors-include his wife and two sons, David of 809 Maplewood Dr., and Douglas at home; a sister, Mrs. Kenneth Wood Halt of Del Mar, California

Dahl-VanHove-Schoof Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. There will be no visitation.
