ACKERSON, Dorothy M. (Mettner) 1925-2010

WATERLOO Dorothy Mae Mettner Ackerson, 85, of Waterloo, died Sunday, Dec. 26, at Ravenwood Nursing and Rehab Center of natural causes.

She was born June 13, 1925, in Waterloo, daughter of Fredrick William Sr. and Gertrude Anna Haupt Mettner. She married Henry J. Ackerson Sr. in 1943.

She graduated from Waterloo West High School and worked at Rath Packing Co. in the order writing department. She worked at the Grout Museum for 28 years, giving tours to children in the blacksmith, country store, cabin and all other exhibits. Mrs. Ackerson set up the Christmas tree and did Christmas programs. She worked in the library and office.

Survived by: a son, Henry J. Jr. of Waterloo; three daughters, Dorothy A. Ackerson of Waterloo, Sandra K. Rassoumoff of Ozark, Mo., and Linda D. McCord of Santa Ana, Calif.; five grandchildren, Lori (Randy) Schleusner, Wade Vickers, Brian Vickers, Melissa (Jason) Sexton and Chris McCord; six great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; two brothers, Fredrick Mettner Jr. and Franklin Mettner, both of Waterloo; and a sister, Frances Dickinson of Los Gatos, Calif.

Preceded in death by: a son in infancy; a daughter, Susan Vickers; and two sisters, Caroline Jabbens and Gertrude Nottger.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Katharine G. Pahl Memorial Chapel at Memorial Park Cemetery. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service, and for an hour before services Thursday at the chapel.

She enjoyed reading, gardening and was a terrific cook. Dorothy will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
