WATERLOO — Vern H. Gaede, 87, of Waterloo, died Saturday, Dec. 25, at Ravenwood Nursing and Rehab Center of natural causes.

He was born July 15, 1923, in Waverly, son of Henry and Agnes Patterson Gaede. He married Dorothy L. Wallace on Nov. 22, 1941, in Waterloo.

He worked at Rath Packing Co. for 46 years, retiring in 1986. He was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Waterloo.

Survived by: his wife; two sons, Larry (Pat) of Waterloo and Dennis (Marilyn) of Cedar Falls; a brother, Darrell (Barbara) of Evansdale; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchilren.

Preceded in death by: a son, Ronald; four sisters, Norma Olmstead, Thelma Youngblut, Dorothy Carter and Darlis Whitaker; and two brothers, Warren and Myron.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, with burial in Fairview Cemetery, Waterloo. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Locke Funeral Home. Note change in location of services.

Memorials: may be directed to Zion Lutheran Church, American Cancer Society, or Cedar Valley Hospice.
