AMES - Mary Margaret Edwards, 87, of Ames, passed away Sunday, Dec. 19, 2010, at the Iowa Veterans Home, Marshalltown.

Mary was born Feb. 4, 1923, at Waterloo, to Ralph and Dolorosa (Fox) Schmitt. She married Dale Edwards on Feb. 13, 1942, at Waterloo. Mary retired from the State of Iowa where she worked as a payroll clerk. She enjoyed oil painting and crafts.

Mary is survived by her children, William Dale (Mary) Edwards of Davenport, Patricia Jo (James) Howes of Cedar Rapids, Julie Anne (Steve) Bovenmyer of Ames, D. Marie Edwards of Ames and Nancy Jo (Roy) Moore of Austin, Texas; her sister, Donna Maringer of San Diego; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Dale; her parents; her sister, Betty; and two brothers, Jim and Richard.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Ames, with Father Jim Secora officiating.
