CEDAR FALLS - Maurice Conway Johnson, 86, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Cedar Falls, died Saturday, Dec. 11, in Heritage Acres Health Care Center in Cedar Rapids.

He was born Dec. 1, 1924, in Eau Claire, Wis., son of Martin and Ann Ekeberg Johnson. He married Sheryl Hutson July 3, 1948 in Hayfield.

He graduated from Central High School in Sioux City in 1942 and served in the U.S. Army in North Africa and China during World War II. As a decorated soldier, he served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, stationed in London. He attended Morningside College, Drake University, University of Iowa, and University of Northern Iowa. He worked for Peoples Finance Co. for 46 years in offices throughout Iowa. He was vice president in the Waterloo office, retiring in 1999. In retirement, he was active in the Cedar Falls Senior Center, receiving recognition from the Department of Elder Affairs in 2002 for volunteer service.

Survived by: his wife, Sheryl; a daughter, Linda (Steve) Struyk of St. Charles, Mo.; two sons, Dan (Rose) of West Chicago, Ill., and Mike (Kathy) of Cedar Rapids; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: a grandson, Danny Johnson Jr.

Services: 1 p.m. Monday at St. Timothy's United Methodist Church, Cedar Falls. There will be no visitation. His body was deeded to the University of Iowa department of anatomy.

Maurice was loved very much by his family and was able to attend an early family Christmas in which all of the family was able to attend.
