WATERLOO — Oscar H. Gingrich, 89, of Waterloo, died at home Monday, Nov. 29, of natural causes.

He was born Nov. 15, 1921, at home in rural Titonka, son of Raleigh W. and Gertrude Wellhousen Gingrich. He married Geneva Mae Williams on April 12, 1952, in Minneapolis. She died Feb. 26. 1999.

Mr. Gingrich served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the 818th Tank Destroyer Battalion and General Patton's 3rd Army Recon Co. He was employed at John Deere in the foundry, retiring in 1978 after 31 years of service. He also was a member of St. Paul's Presbyterian Church, Washburn; was a former Honor Guard Commander and Life Member of VFW Post 1623 and American Legion Post 138; and belonged to the Moose Lodge and Polka Club of Iowa.

Survived by: a son, Allen Benson of Waterloo; a daughter, Theresa (Jim) Mahoney of Waterloo; three grandchildren, Ashley Essmann, Sydnie Mahoney and Terrence Miller; two great-grandchildren, Taylor and Evan Miller; and special friend, Norma Ellis.

Preceded in death by: a daughter, Brenda Lucretia Benson Gingrich; a daughter-in-law, Barbara Benson; two brothers, Clarence and Earl; and a sister-in-law, Anna Gingrich.

Services: 10 a.m. Friday at St. Paul's Presbyterian Church, Washburn, with burial in Poyner Cemetery, Waterloo. Graveside military rites will be conducted by Becker-Chapman Post 138 American Legion and Waterloo Post 1623 Veterans of Foreign Wars. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service, and for an hour before services Friday at the church.

Memorials: may be directed to the family to go to Honor Flight

Oscar attended Hawkeye Community College to learn algebra so he could help Theresa and Brenda with their homework. He enjoyed roller skating and never missed a family or Army reunion. Oscar will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
